I am a visual artist and I like to work in the mediums of video/film, sculpture/installation and photography.
I grew up in Templemore, County Tipperary. I studied art at Limerick School of Art and Design in the late 1990’s. After completing the Erasmus program at The Academy of Fine Art Munich, I began to study full time in Munich and completed my degree at The Academy of Fine Art in 2006.
I remained in Munich for a number of years practicing art and for 12 years I also worked as a guide at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Recently I have returned to Ireland to live and continue my work as an artist. I currently live near the village of Templetuohy, Thurles, County Tipperary. I have had work shown in Germany, Derby/England, Los Angeles/USA and in Ireland.
Religion, politics and history are important themes in my work.
The history and culture of film/cinema is also something that is central to me. Through my practice I like to investigate these themes and their various devices. I like to respond to these themes with my own re-arranging or re-imagining of iconography. The subversive role of symbols and structures is something that I find very interesting.
I like to expose and create a new space where these devices can be opened up to fresh interpretation.
