Artist Biography

Aideen Barry is a visual artist whose work has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions and commissions in Ireland and internationally. 

Significant projects include: residencies and exhibitions at;  IMMA, The Irish Museum of Modern Art; Ireland, CAC Malaga; Spain,  The Headlands Center for the Arts; US, Centre for the Less Good Idea; South Africa,  Art OMI; US, The Whitaker Museum; UK, NASA Kennedy Space Center; US, Skaftfell; Iceland, Banff Centre; Canada, Centre Cultural Irlandais; France.

 Important national and international awards include:  The Myron Marty Lectureship, Drake University; US, The Anderson Lecture invited Professorship, Penn State University; US, The Claremorris Open Award; Ireland, The Project New Work Awards from the Arts Council of Ireland, Bursary Awards from the Arts Council of Ireland, Culture Ireland Award, Local Authority Awards,  IGNITE award,  and she was shortlisted for the prestigious AIB prize. 

In 2021 she won the Golden Fleece Award and the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Award.. 

Barry’s work is in several important Art Collections including Art Omi, New York, The Francis Greenburger Collection, Trinity College, Dublin,  The Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork, Department of Education & Skills, Office of Public Works, Centre de l’Art Contemporary, Malaga, ESP, The Butler Gallery collection, The Arts Council of Ireland and the National Collection at Crawford Art Gallery and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. 

In 2022 she debuted her first feature film Klostės at the London Festival of Architecture and at the Architecture & Design fIlm Fest Canada. In 2023 she was an artist in residence at the ISCP in Brooklyn New York on the Temple Bar Gallery & Studios award. She teaches in Ireland at Limerick School of Art & Design, in America at Wesley College, Boston,  and was recently a visiting professor at Hamilton College Utica, Parsons The New School NYC and George Washington University, DC. 

In 2024 will collaborate with musician Peter Gabriel on a new international project.  

Barry is a member of Aósdana and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
